Kenneth R. Cummings, Ph. D., Dipl. ACAN

Kenneth R. Cummings was raised on a general crop and livestock farm in Oklahoma and received his B. S. degree in Agricultural Education from Oklahoma State University in 1961 and his M. S. and Ph. D. degrees in Ruminant Nutrition from Purdue University . He held senior academic positions in the Department of Dairy Science at Mississippi State University and in the Animal Science Department at Colorado State University . Cummings joined Church and Dwight Company in 1979 and held very senior positions in Research. In 1982, he became Senior Scientist and Manager of Animal Technical Services at Eastman Chemical Company and returned to Church and Dwight Company in 1983 as Director of Technical Sales for the Specialty Products Division. Ken was responsible for planning, implementing and coordinating over 250 research projects in conjunction with university and private research facilities in the US, Canada and Mexico. Primary research areas have included sodium and potassium products for use as electrolytes (DCAD) and rumen buffers, milk replacer products for dairy calves, rumen fermentation enhancers, rumen inert fats as energy sources and to supply essential fatty acids and other rumen bypass nutrients. He retired in January, 2006 after 26 years as Director of Animal Research and Technical Service for the Animal Nutrition Group of Church and Dwight Company, Inc.

Dr. Cummings is the inventor or co-inventor for 25 patents on products and processes designed to enhance animal productivity. He has authored or co-authored over 200 scientific and popular press publications and organized and hosted over 25 conferences. These include the innovative ‘Think Tank’ conferences designed to investigate research opportunities or to highlight research findings. He has been a member of the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA) since 1963 and is a past member of ASAS and PSA. He is a past-president of the Northeast Section of ADSA and has served on numerous ADSA committees. Cummings is a charter member of American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists (ARPAS) and has served as Northeast Director and President of ARPAS. He is a charter Diplomate of the American College of Animal Nutrition (ACAN) and a past President. He served as an advisor for National Extension Leadership Development Program and was the Church and Dwight liaison to CAST, FASS and Fats and Proteins Research Foundation. He is a Life Member of the AFIA Nutrition Council and served on its board of directors as well as the dairy, poultry and nutritional advisory committees. He is currently serving on the board of the Professional Animal Auditor Certification Organization (PAACO).
