| Miner Institute Japan is located in Tokyo and operated
by Koichi Ito, DVM, BS of animal science. He has Miner Japan membership
structure consisting of dairy farmers, county agents, veterinary
practitioners, agricultural cooperative technical people and feed
industry.He has about 600 memberships and covers from northern tip
of Hokkaido to southern Island of Okinawa.
Memberships receive monthly technical bulletin, are qualified to
attend intensive training workshops which have been implemented
one or two times per year at Hokkaido and Honshu(main island) and
have been entertain about 150 people every year. Besides he is invited
30 to 40 times a year to local seminar programs and farm consultations
every year
His activities cover all dairy related areas such as nutrition/feeding,
management, mastitis/milk quality, housing/facilities, reproduction,
animal behavior, forage production and reproduction etc.
The purpose of the activities are to strengthen international competitiveness
of Japan dairy industry. Main job is technology transfer but key
point is to play the role of gate keeper of information flow from
US to Japan Eighty percent of technical information are from US
and extension oriented papers written by US dairy scientists from
Land Grant /and other Universities and private consultants. Those
are translated into Japanese. Rest of information is written by
Dr Ito. Miner Institute Japan invite 2-4 US Dairy scientists such
as Dr. Sniffen and Dr. Chalupa as lecturer of intensive workshops.
Some times Dr. Ito works for foreign company who wants to start
business in Japan as a coordinator.
