Tammy K. Miller Webster has worked 20 years in the area or rumen microbial metabolism.

Her expertise is in the area of rumen continuous culture fermentation methodology and laboratory procedures.

While as a graduate student and laboratory manager with Professor W.H. Hoover she conducted significant research in the areas of rumen microbial carbohydrate and nitrogen metabolism. Her research was focused on the development and refinement of an "artificial rumen" to predict microbial responses to feedstuffs and additives. This continuous culture system has been utilized extensively by the feed industry and academia in the development of a number of commercial products currently available as animal feeds and feed additives.

Since 2000, following Dr. Hoover's retirement for the West Virginia University, Ms. Webster has operated the Rumen Fermentation Profiling Laboratory as a fiscally independent entity within the University.

The continuous culture system is available as an evaluation tool for feed industry and researchers while functioning simultaneously as a valuable educational tool for West Virginia University students.
